**archyde:** Gints, congratulations on the remarkable success of “Flow.” 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and an Oscar nomination are incredible achievements, especially for an animated film with no dialog.What inspired you to tell a story without words?
**Gints Zilbalodis:** Thank you. The idea came from a desire to create a truly universal experience. Words can sometimes be limiting, creating barriers between viewers and the story. I wanted “Flow” to be accessible to everyone, regardless of language or cultural background.
**Archyde:** The film’s central character,the black cat,resonates deeply with audiences. What is your personal connection to this character?
**Gints Zilbalodis:** The cat represents solitude, resilience, and the search for connection. These are themes that have always been close to my heart. I believe many people can relate to the cat’s journey of navigating a sometimes bewildering and uncertain world.
**Archyde:** “Flow” has been praised for its stunning visuals and dreamlike atmosphere. Can you tell us about the animation style and the visual world you created?
**Gints Zilbalodis:** The visual style was inspired by conventional animation techniques,but I also wanted to explore more abstract and surreal imagery. I wanted the film to feel like a journey through the subconscious, a place where logic and reality blur.
**Archyde:** Some viewers might find the lack of dialogue initially jarring. Do you think animation without words can be just as effective, if not more so, in conveying complex emotions?
**Gints Zilbalodis:** absolutely. I believe silence can be incredibly powerful. It allows space for contemplation and personal interpretation. By removing dialogue, I hope to encourage viewers to connect with the story on a deeper, more intuitive level.
**Archyde:** “Flow” is now available for streaming, making it accessible to a global audience.What impact do you hope the film will have on viewers?
**Gints Zilbalodis:** My hope is that “Flow” will inspire people to appreciate the beauty of silence, the power of visual storytelling, and the universality of human experience.

**Gints Zilbalodis:** I certainly hope so. I believe there’s a growing audience who is hungry for different kinds of stories,stories that challenge conventions and explore new forms of expression.

I believe that images have a power to communicate that words sometimes cannot.
**archyde:** The film’s protagonist, a solitary black cat navigating a surreal world, is incredibly compelling. Can you tell us more about your connection to this character and the world you created for him?
**Gints Zilbalodis:** The black cat is a reflection of myself in many ways. He represents a sense of loneliness and searching for connection that I think many people can relate to. The world he inhabits is a manifestation of my own dreams and subconscious,a place where reality and fantasy blend together.

**Gints Zilbalodis:** I chose to work with a team of talented animators who shared my vision for the film. We spent countless hours sketching, storyboarding, and refining each frame to create a sense of fluidity and movement that mirrors the emotional journey of the character.
**archyde:** The lack of dialogue allows viewers to interpret the story in their own way. what kind of response have you gotten from audiences?
**Gints Zilbalodis:** It’s been fascinating to see how differently people interpret the film. I love that “Flow” encourages individual reflection and personal connection.
