If it comes to the richest people in the world, in addition to Tesla founder Elon Musk, I believe many people will think of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. However, with US$114 billion (approximately HK$894.9 billion), Bill Gates, who ranks fourth in the rich list, recently announced that he will withdraw from the global “rich list” and donate all his property to the fund jointly established by him and his ex-wife, hoping can help more people.
Bill Gates announced on July 13 that he would donate US$20 billion (regarding HK$157 billion) to the “Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation” fund he co-founded with his ex-wife, and posted on Twitter, pointing out that there are many global setbacks. Frustrated and wondering if the world is doomed for a worse time, people announced that they would give away almost all of their fortune and drop out of the world’s richest list.
Several huge global setbacks over the past few years have left many people discouraged and wondering whether the world is destined to get worse.

I have an obligation to return my resources to society in ways that have the greatest impact for reducing suffering and improving lives. And I hope others in positions of great wealth and privilege will step up in this moment too.

Bill Gates expressed his obligation to give resources back to society in a way that would minimize suffering and have the greatest impact, and hoped to lead the way so others with substantial possessions might donate money to those in need.
As I look to the future, I plan to give virtually all of my wealth to the foundation. I will move down and eventually off of the list of the world’s richest people.
