Mitsotakis: The only political solution is the creation of two states, an immediate ceasefire in Gaza

We repeat the call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, to intensify the pressure so that southern Lebanon does not turn into a new Gaza, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Brussels, among others, coming to the EU-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit.

The Prime Minister’s statement in detail:

“The first High Council between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council is being held at an extremely critical juncture. Greece is located at the south-eastern tip of Europe and obviously has every desire to further deepen the relations between the European Union and the Gulf countries.

“Furthermore, on a bilateral level, it maintains excellent relations with all six states that make up the Cooperation Council. It is very important, however, to further deepen relations at the level of the European Union, especially in a cooperation that at a time when our cooperation is increasingly necessary, as the wider Middle East is at risk of a military flare-up.

“It is extremely important at this time to reiterate our call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza so that this unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe does not continue. And to intensify our pressure so that southern Lebanon does not turn into a Gaza, within the framework of Israel’s legal right to be able to defend itself against Iranian attacks.

“But right now what is required first and foremost is restraint, so that we can give time to put back on the table the only political solution that can deal with the structural problem of the Middle East, which is not it is other than the creation of two states that can coexist in peace, so that we can deal at the root of the structural problem that is driving this region into a state of sure fire.”
