Emirati artist Bilal Abdullah confirmed that Kuwaiti drama is proceeding in a distinctive way and is still a leader in the Gulf region, and most of the works that are produced are witnessing development that keeps pace with all international technologies and arts. He said in an exclusive interview with Al-Seyassah: There is a group of works being produced in the Gulf countries. It carries a lot of distinction, but Kuwaiti works still have a special character, especially since Kuwait includes distinguished cadres and elements in addition to the abundance of production, indicating that there is distinguished Saudi production that is constantly increasing, which confirms that this region will witness great artistic prosperity during the coming years.
Regarding the drama industry in the Emirates, Abdullah explained that there are a number of works being produced and we need more, but they are going well and it is expected that they will also witness a state of prosperity during the coming period, especially following some distinguished series were presented in recent years, noting that The UAE’s capabilities make it eligible for this industry to flourish.
Regarding his studies in cinema and what he achieved on the ground, he confirmed that he directed many films and participated in starring in many of them, such as the film “Half Heart,” which opened the Gulf Film Festival, and also the film “Billionaire,” and there is the film “The Caesar,” which has not yet been shown. Pointing out that he is proud of what he has presented so far in cinema.
The artist, Bilal, believed that cinema in the Gulf will witness great interest during the coming period in light of the construction of many cinemas in Saudi Arabia, indicating that the existence of a cinema industry in the Gulf region without betting on the Saudi audience will not achieve complete success, if taken into account. We are talking regarding a commercial artistic industry that depends on financing, and we hope that there will be more interest in cinema and its industry.
Abdullah considered that supporting the cinema industry is not an easy matter, because it is a mass commercial artistic industry, and it is difficult to ask an official body to support a cinematic film, but it is assumed that there will be a role for the private sector in the advancement of this industry, pointing out that cinema is able to advance and achieve success. Great if a good climate is provided for it.
Regarding his relationship with the late artist Abdul Hussein Abdul Reda, he considered that he is an artist that will not be repeated until following fifty years or more. He was the one who presented the artistic arena with many distinguished works and everyone is learning from them until now. He pointed out that he met him at the film festival, but the days were not enough for him. In order to present joint works.
Regarding his current participation in the series “Mardi and Daham,” he revealed that it is one of the diverse and distinguished works that will be widely watched next Ramadan, because it includes a group of comedy stars in the Gulf, including Abdel Nasser Darwish, Ahmed Al-Aoun, Sultan Al-Faraj and others, in addition to a large number of stars. Youth and the most important are the topics he addresses in his episodes, noting that he embodies the character of “Bilali the baker,” with whom all the people of Al-Faraj gather because he is the only one who sells bread and creates a distinct relationship between him and everyone.
The Emirati artist explained that the name “Bilali” is the name that “they used to call me when I was a young child, so I chose it for the sake of my childhood memories,” hoping that the work would be released to the public in a manner commensurate with the amount of effort made by the series team.
The artist Abdullah concluded: I have beautiful memories with Kuwaiti drama and with artists in Kuwait, where I presented many works, including the series “Barons, My Father’s Harem, Kani Mani, Amakor” and other works, in addition to my participation in the series “Khaled Bin Al-Walid” in Syria. With a large number of Kuwaiti artists, most notably Khaled Amin, Khaled Al-Buraiki, Fahd Al-Abdul Mohsen and others, I consider Kuwait my second country.
