In a bizarre turn of events, a man from Bihar’s Samastipur district has filed a case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a Patna court. Mukesh chaudhary alleges that Gandhi’s recent statement about fighting the “Indian State” frightened him so badly that he dropped a bucket of milk, causing a loss of ₹250.
“I was in such a state of shock that my bucket full of five litres of milk, priced at ₹50 per litre, slipped off my hand. Rahul Gandhi was threatening the sovereignty of the nation,” claimed Chaudhary.
Chaudhary’s plea, filed in a civil court, seeks to have Gandhi tried under various sections of India’s new criminal code, including Section 152, which pertains to sedition.
Gandhi’s Controversial Remarks
The incident stems from Gandhi’s speech during the inauguration of the Congress party’s new headquarters in New Delhi on january 15.There, he criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for his assertion that India’s true independence was achieved with the opening of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
“The BJP and RSS have captured every single institution, and we are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself,” Gandhi declared.
gandhi’s remarks attracted immediate condemnation from the BJP. Union Health Minister and BJP President JP Nadda retorted,“They neither know about history nor have anything to do with it. I have said many times that their speechwriters write anything, and they just read it anywhere.”
An FIR was also registered against Gandhi in Assam for his alleged remarks, charging him under sections 152 and 197 (1)d of the Bharatiya nyaya sanhita (BNS) for allegedly endangering the country’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
Monjit Chetia, the complainant in Assam, stated, “This statement by Rahul Gandhi attempts to delegitimize the authority of the state and portray it as a hostile entity. Such remarks create a dangerous narrative, which could incite unrest and foster separatist sentiments.”

As an Indian, I felt threatened. In my shock,I lost grip of the milk bucket I was holding,and the milk spilled,causing me a loss of ₹250.

AG: That’s quite a story. But why did you choose to file a sedition case over this incident?
MC: Sedition is a serious charge, I agree. But Rahul gandhi’s statement was also serious. He was essentially saying that he’s fighting the Indian State, which is a threat to our sovereignty and unity. I believe this is a matter of national interest, and I’m just a concerned citizen trying to uphold the law.

AG: Speaking of concerned citizens, you’re not the first nor the last to file a case against Mr.Gandhi over this speech. What makes your case different?
MC: Because I’m not here for political gains or to make a name for myself. I’m here because I genuinely believe in the sanctity of our nation, and I won’t stand by while anyone threatens it, no matter how big or small the incident may seem.

AG: given the attention this case has received, what message do you hope it sends out to the public?
MC: I hope it sends a message that we, as citizens, have a duty towards our country and its institutions. We should stand up against anyone who threatens our unity, no matter how big or small the threat may seem.
