Big relief to Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia and Avonfield references, appeals against conviction restored

The Islamabad High Court has reinstated appeals against the conviction of former prime minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia and Avonfield references. In the Islamabad High Court, a hearing was also held on the appeals against Nawaz Sharif’s conviction in the Al-Azizia and Avonfield reference and the application for Nawaz Sharif’s protective bail.

A two-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court heard the petitions to revive the appeal against the sentence. A bench comprising Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamir Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb heard all the petitions together.

Amjad Parvez Advocate and Azam Nazir Tarar appeared on behalf of Nawaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif was also present in the court while the Prosecutor General appeared in the court along with the NAB prosecution team.

During the hearing, the Prosecutor General NAB said that NAB has no objection to reviving the appeals against Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield reference. If they have done so, their appeal should be reinstated.

Prosecutor General NAB said that Chairman NAB and he himself are in agreement that they will not object to reinstatement of appeals in the first stage.
