Big power cut in the Huy region this morning: a marten deprives 20,000 homes of electricity

It was without electricity that many Hutois and residents of neighboring towns such as Marchin, Modave, Strée, Tihange and even Andenne woke up.

Many of you have informed us of this power outage via the orange Alert us button.

“General power outage in Huy.” “Power outage in Huy since before 6am this morning. What’s going on? Why is it taking so long?” “General blackout on Huy and its region”, did you write to us.

A weasel is the cause of this breakdown, which occurred at 5:45 a.m. The animal managed to get into a cabin at the Haute Sarte substation, causing a short circuit in the general transmission. The incident therefore took place in a high-voltage station which provides Resa and supplies 250 cabins, each of which supplies around a hundred homes. It is therefore around 20,000 households that were affected by the outage. “The breakdown itself is not exceptional, but the scale is exceptional”, explains Charlotte Quevedo, spokesperson for Resa.

The breakdown was quickly resolved, the time to go to the site, identify the cause, carry out repairs and restart everything around 7:30 a.m., specifies Jean Fassiaux, spokesman for Elia. But the restart having to be done in a sequenced way, it took a little time for each house to regain power.
