A week following the 3-0 win in Aarau and the jump to the top of the Challenge League table, FC Winterthur landed the next big point in the promotion race with coach Alex Frei.
But before the 4:2 home win once morest another direct competitor, FC Vaduz, was certain, “Winti” had to go down: The Liechtensteiners took the lead twice, but quickly conceded the equalizer.
In the 66th minute, Roman Buess gave the home team the lead for the first time – cheered on by 8,200 spectators (league season record). On Monday, pursuer Aarau will compete in Thun and can close in on Winterthur by two points.
Shock at Kriens vs Xamax
Meanwhile, in the game in Kriens, there was a shock scene in the 19th minute. In a header duel, Xamaxien Franck Surdez (19) crashes violently to the ground and remains lying. He had scored the 1-0 for the guests just four minutes earlier.
It is immediately clear: the situation is serious. He appears to be unconscious. Caregivers run onto the pitch and provide first aid.
The game has to be interrupted for a long, anxious seven minutes. Surdez is immediately taken to the hospital. The game might then continue, Xamax finally wins it 5:0.
Later on Saturday evening, Xamax President Jean-François Collet can give the all-clear. Surdez was able to leave the stadium conscious in the direction of the hospital. “He’s doing better,” Collet told Blick.
His condition is stable, but he will stay in the hospital overnight. Neuchâtel hope that Surdez can go home on Easter Sunday. (who/what)
