Antananarivo, May 16, 7:05 p.m. – Yet another vaccination campaign once morest poliomyelitis launched on the Big Island. According to the Ministry of Public Health, 5.3 million children under the age of 5 are targeted by this campaign, which began on Tuesday and will end on Friday in the 23 regions of the country.
Health workers will visit vaccination centers, health facilities, schools and places with high attendance during this campaign. Door-to-door actions are also planned.
With the drop in the vaccination rate and the suspension of vaccination campaigns following the Covid-19 epidemic, the Big Island is facing a resurgence of poliomyelitis cases. Since September 2020, UNICEF data shows 200 cases of poliomyelitis recorded, while Madagascar has already been certified polio free in 2018.
