Notre-Dame in Flammen

The images of the last major fire in the French capital went around the world: in the early evening of April 15, 2019, a devastating fire broke out in the world-famous Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, initially unnoticed. The wooden roof truss and the lead roof were destroyed, the crossing tower in the middle collapsed. Most of the art treasures were saved by priests and courageous firefighters, including a relic of a crown of thorns prayed to on Good Friday. To date, the cathedral has not been completely rebuilt.
