Big fire at the Couillet recyparc: firefighters have brought the flames under control

A major fire broke out at the recyparc de Couillet (Charleroi), this Wednesday at the end of the morning. The flames took in the “wood” department of the container park, and the firefighters managed to control everything around 12:50 p.m.

The workers of the intermunicipal Tibi made a firebreak with bulldozers while regarding twenty firefighters, on the spot under the orders of Captain Mayor, attacked the fire with ladders and tanks as reinforcements. The railway police are also on site, because next to the recyparc are stored metro trains, which had to be moved back. A warehouse was threatened by the flames but was spared by joint efforts on site. The federal police helicopter was also called in to help fight the flames.

“Residents of homes located downwind have been asked to confine themselves as a precaution,” said the spokesperson for the Charleroi fire department. The situation is now under control.
