big event dedicated to the brain

Each year, Brain Week is organized in March, a national event, held throughout France. Coordinated by the Society of Neurosciences, and placed under the high patronage of Mrs. Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, this week dedicated to the brain takes place this year from March 13 to 19, 2023.

A week dedicated to the brain

Where are the knowledge on the brain and how it works? Where is the research in neurosciences which allow each year to better understand the secrets of the brain, but also the mechanisms associated with the various cerebral pathologies? So many subjects at the heart of the brain week. Throughout France, conferences, debates, workshops and exhibitions are organized to inform the general public regarding the brain and its mysteries.

All these events are open to everyone and completely free. To know the list, the date and the localization, it is enough to consult the following site: https://www.semaineducerveau.fr/programme-manifestations/. Among the many events organized throughout the territory, there is among others a conference which will take place in Brest on March 16 on the theme “What therapies once morest neurodegenerative diseases? », a major theme in the face of the development of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Brain events organized throughout France

In parallel with the conferences, exhibitions will be open to the general public, such as “O’tablo: microbiota and multiple sclerosis” to be discovered in the city of Nantes. This exhibition will focus on the current knowledge of the role of the microbiotaand mainly of the intestinal microbiota, on the development of multiple sclerosisan autoimmune and neurodegenerative disease that mainly develops in young adults.

In Île-de-France, many events will be organized, including conferences at the Learning Planet Institute. The link between brain health and the environment will be addressed through a conference by Jean-Baptiste Fini and Xavier Coumoul on the theme “Who are endocrine disruptors? What impact do they have on our health and particularly on our brain? which will take place on March 16. All these events will allow the French to learn more regarding the brain and the extent of research in neuroscience.

A webcast on migraine, this particular headache

As part of Brain Week, INSERM is also organizing a webcast dedicated to migraine. This program will be broadcast on the INSERM YouTube channel on March 14 at 8:30 p.m. Migraine is indeed one of the most common neurological diseases, while many French people still consider migraine as a headache like any other. In France, 12% of the population are affected, more often women than men. Children are not spared, with 5% of children affected by migraine.

The great clinical variability of migraine, from one patient to another but also from one crisis to another, sometimes contributes to a delay in diagnosis and therefore in treatment. This webcast is an opportunity to take stock of the characteristic signs of migraine, its diagnosis, but also the treatments available and their effectiveness. During Brain Week, every Frenchman will be able to better understand how our brain works or malfunctions, but also how quickly neuroscience researchers are advancing in their knowledge.
