“Big brother” from AADE and in IX – What will he be looking for? – 2024-03-14 12:41:17

After real estate and cars will get a special electronic file where there will be all those necessary elements, to which the authorities will have direct access and thus will be able to ascertain at any time whether the car is insured and whether it has passed a technical inspection at the KTEO.

Cooperation of AADE – MINISTRY OF SECURITY

The implementation of this monitoring system is planned jointly by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the AADE. At the same time, the new system of certifying traffic fees is being promoted with the application of a graduated fine in case of late payment.

More specifically, the interventions in the car regime launched by the Ministry of National Economy foresee the following:

Uninsured vehicles: A permanent automatic mechanism for detecting uninsured vehicles is being prepared. The platform will include data from the electronic file of AADE, the file of vehicles owned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the stolen vehicles of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the deceased vehicles of the Ministry of the Interior, the recycled vehicles of the Alternative Vehicle Management of Greece and the insured vehicles of the Information Center of the Auxiliary Liability Insurance Fund from Automobile Accidents. Those caught with uninsured vehicles will receive an infringement notice and will be required to pay a fine of up to €250 in the form of a surcharge which they will have to pay to subsequently insure their vehicle. In the event that they do not comply, the fine increases to 500 euros, while administrative and criminal sanctions will be imposed, such as the withdrawal of a diploma for 6 months and the withdrawal of license plates and driving license.

Premiere… with crossovers

It is worth noting that for the first time AADE carried out a cross-check to identify uninsured vehicles, in June 2017, following which vehicle insurances increased by 510,000, compared to previous years, reaching, for the first time, the historical size of 6.26 million insured vehicles in the country. Between 2018 and 2022, the traffic police imposed fines exceeding 21.6 million euros on more than 100,000 vehicle owners who had not insured their vehicle.

Technical control – KTEO: With the same automatic mechanism for detecting uninsured cars, vehicles that have not passed a technical inspection at the KTEOs will also be detected. The drivers will be asked to pay a fine of 150 euros, while if the violation is found in a traffic control, the fine will amount to 400 euros.

Traffic fees: A new road tax certification system is being planned with a progressive fine depending on the time of late payment of the fees, a measure expected to be implemented from 2025. The sooner the payment is made following the deadline, the smaller the fine will be. Today the fine is horizontal and amounts to twice the value of the annual fees even if the payment of the fees is delayed by one day. It should be noted that for 2024, vehicle owners have the leeway to pay traffic taxes on time until February 29, 2024. Those who plan to digitally immobilize their vehicles benefit from this new extension. They will be able to circulate their vehicles normally for the first 2 months of 2024, covered by the extension at no extra cost. However, by February 29 at the latest, they will have to digitally immobilize their vehicle in order not to face fines.
