Two people were seriously injured by a car on Thursday morning in Biel. A section of Central Street has been cordoned off. Investigations are ongoing.
A serious accident took place Thursday morning around 10:20 am, at Rue Centrale in Bienne. According to the Bernese cantonal police, a driver was about to leave the Faubourg du Lac roundabout in the direction of Rue Centrale, when at the same time, a man and a woman crossed the pedestrian crossing. The two people were then hit by the car and seriously injured.
After first medical treatment was provided, the 61-year-old man and 53-year-old woman were both taken to hospital with two ambulances. The driver is unharmed.
Disturbed traffic
Rue Centrale was completely cordoned off between the Faubourg du Lac roundabout and Place Centrale during the rescue work linked to the accident. Public transport traveling in the direction of the Faubourg du Lac was able to pass the accident site, while those in the direction of the Place Centrale were diverted.
The City of Biel Police Inspectorate has set up a diversion. Investigations were still underway in the middle of the afternoon to clarify the exact course of the accident.
