Biel (BE): Seven and a half years in prison for importing 34 kilos of heroin

Described by the judges as “an important logistics hub” for a network of dealers, a man was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison on Friday. He is accused of having made 66 trips by car, between July 2019 and April 2020, in order to introduce 34 kilos of heroin into Switzerland. The imported product being cut, justice finally held once morest him the quantity of 8.2 kilos of pure goods. In view of the facts and comparing them to other similar cases, the defendant should normally have taken ten years in detention.

He nevertheless benefited from a reduction of 25%, thanks to his complete confession, explains “The Journal of the Jura“. The judges also took into account that these same confessions led to him being harassed, assaulted and threatened with death in prison by fellow prisoners who consider him a traitor. For his safety, he had to be transferred from prison several times. On the other hand, justice will not grant him a case of hardship. He will be expelled from the territory at the end of his sentence, despite his five children established here and his job as a horticulturist. However, Switzerland can no longer send Eritreans back to their country.
