BOSTON (AP) — Shane Bieber won for just the second time in six starts this season, allowing two runs and four hits in seven innings as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2 on Friday.
Bieber (2-1) struck out four and walked two, earning his first victory since April 10. The 2020 AL Cy Young Trophy winner has made 26 starts of at least five innings.
Cleveland returned to the .500 mark (13-13), stringing wins for the first time since April 14-15. On the road, the Guardians are 9-5.
Closer Emmanuel Clase allowed a double to Jarren Duran in the ninth before retiring three opponents on ground balls for 9-for-10 saves.
Nick Pivetta (1-2) allowed four runs and five hits in five innings. His ERA worsened to 5.11.
