SALT LAKE CITY (Archyde.com) – U.S. President Joe Biden said yesterday that China was a “ticking time bomb” due to challenges including weak economic growth, but he cited wrong data.
“They have some problems. It’s not a good thing because when bad folks get in trouble, they do bad things,” Biden said at a political fundraiser in Utah.
Biden said yesterday that he does not want to hurt China and hopes to maintain a rational relationship with China, but made a bleak prediction for China’s future.
“China is a ticking time bomb … China is in trouble. It used to be growing at 8% a year in order to maintain economic growth, and now it’s down to almost 2% a year,” he said.
However, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, China’s economic growth rate in the first quarter reached 4.5%, and 6.3% in the second quarter; the gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter increased by 2.2%, and from April to June it was higher than the previous quarter An increase of 0.8%.
Biden’s comments were reminiscent of comments he made at another fundraiser in June when he called Xi a “dictator.” Beijing called Biden’s remarks a provocation.
At the time, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had just concluded a visit to China aimed at stabilizing relations between the two countries. Beijing has described Sino-U.S. relations as at their lowest point since the two countries established diplomatic ties. Central News Agency (Translation)
