US PRESIDENT Joe Biden is increasingly cornered as many parties call for him to withdraw from running for re-election in the US Election. His health condition is increasingly a concern as he isolates himself at his home on the Delaware coast following testing positive for Covid-19.
Biden’s positive test Wednesday comes as calls from his party for him to drop out of the 2024 presidential race grow. CNN reported that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi privately told the president that polls show Biden cannot beat former President Donald Trump in November. Continuing his presidential bid might hurt Democrats’ chances of retaking the House leadership.
The BET interview, taped Tuesday and aired in full Wednesday night, was the latest to unsettle Democratic politicians. In the interview, Biden said only a medical condition would convince him to drop out of the race, a statement made just one day before he tested positive for Covid.
The White House said Wednesday that the president was experiencing upper respiratory symptoms, including rhinorrhea (runny nose) and a nonproductive cough, with general malaise due to his Covid infection.
Video of the president leaving Las Vegas showed him walking slowly up the stairs to board Air Force One, including stopping on the second step to steady himself before continuing on to the plane.
According to notes from his physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden does not have a fever and his vital signs remain normal.

Video captured by a reporter who met Biden in Delaware on Wednesday (7/17) night also showed the president appearing to struggle to sit in his SUV as he headed to his Delaware beach home, where he is isolating.
The video shows Biden taking half a minute to get into the SUV and asking Secret Service agents for help getting into the car. The president was not wearing a mask during his interactions with the agents, despite having Covid.
Earlier in the day, while visiting a restaurant, the president mistook Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford for the state’s governor. While speaking with a diner, Biden pointed to Ford and asked, “You know the governor?” People nearby laughed at the remark, but it was unclear whether Biden was joking.
CNN has reached out to the Biden campaign and the White House for comment on the situation in Nevada and the president’s arrival in Delaware. Biden deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks was asked if Biden was open to talks regarding dropping out of the race, and Fulks said, “The president has said several times, he’s going to stay in the race.” (CNN/P-5)
