A federal judge in Florida ruled Wednesday that the practice of mass parole of immigrants into the U.S. interior is illegal. The judge accused the government of turning the border into a ‘meaningless line in the sand’.
A judge hearing a complaint from the state of Florida said the Biden administration’s release of tens of thousands of immigrants as part of a humanitarian parole program called ‘parole + ATD’ is illegal.
‘The Biden administration has turned the Southwest border into a meaningless line in the sand. And the illegal immigrants who flow into the country are little more than a speed hump,” the judge said. Additionally, Wetherell ruled that policies implemented by the Biden administration, including catch and release, as a means of deterring illegal immigrants contributed to the collapse of the border.
President Biden is responsible for the border crisis and his illegal immigration policies threaten the security of this country. A federal judge is now ordering Biden to follow the law. His administration should start ensuring security immediately. “I completely agree with today’s ruling,” Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, a Republican, said in a statement.
The administration has increasingly used parole to quickly release immigrants into the interior of the state to ease border congestion. The law requires that each case be evaluated and used for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit. Florida argued that the government was violating legal orders to detain immigrants. The administration had argued that there was no ‘no-detention policy’ and that it was using its prosecutorial discretion.
