“But we can’t let him win,” added the 81-year-old Democrat during a meeting with Democratic donors near Boston (northeast), regarding the former Republican president.

Joe Biden, whose campaign is struggling to get off the ground, has long said he is best placed to beat Donald Trump once more.

The Democrat, whose age worries voters and who struggles to sell his economic record, regularly repeats that democracy itself is at stake in this new confrontation announced with the former businessman.

Despite his unpopularity, and barring any major surprises or serious health problems forcing him to withdraw, the American president is almost guaranteed to win his party’s nomination for the November 2024 election.

Donald Trump, for his part, is currently the big favorite in the Republican primary.
