Biden warns all parties against undermining efforts to stop war in Gaza

Gaza – US President Joe Biden warned all parties in the Middle East against undermining efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and a prisoner exchange, saying that an agreement was close, after Washington presented a new proposal to “bridge the gaps” between the factions’ movement and Israel.

Biden said in a statement that he would send Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Israel on Saturday “to emphasize that as a full ceasefire and hostage release agreement nears, no one in the region should take actions to undermine this process.”

The US President’s statement came after the conclusion of a two-day round of talks held in Doha to discuss the proposed agreement, which Washington said had seen “significant progress”, followed by the announcement of another round expected to be held in Cairo before the end of next week.

“I received an update from my negotiating team in Doha and asked them to present a comprehensive proposal to bridge the gaps in order to reach a final agreement,” Biden said.

The US President said he spoke with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi “to review the significant progress made in Doha over the past two days.”

Biden added that the Emir of Qatar and the Egyptian President expressed their strong support for the US proposal as co-mediators in the negotiations, according to the statement.
