US President Joe Biden has promised Ukraine more air defense systems after Russia launched a devastating attack on the Ukrainian city of Poltava. “I condemn this heinous attack in the strongest possible terms,” he said in a statement released late Tuesday. Kyiv would continue to provide military support “including providing the air defense systems and capabilities the country needs to protect its borders.”
According to Ukrainian news, an attack in Poltava in central Ukraine on Tuesday killed at least 51 people, and President Volodymyr Zelensky said that another 271 people were injured. Russian missiles hit military training center and hospital.
After the attack, Zelensky once again called on Western allies to quickly provide Russia with new air defense systems and allow the use of long-range weapons that have been delivered to attack Russian territory.
