Biden wants to limit the term of office of Supreme Court judges

Among other things, judges will no longer be appointed for life as before. A term of office will be limited to a maximum of 18 years. This will help to ensure that the composition of the court changes regularly.

Most recently, Donald Trump appointed three relatively young Supreme Court justices during his time as US President. Six of the nine Supreme Court justices have since been conservative. By overturning the right to abortion or determining that presidents enjoy immunity from prosecution for acts committed during their term in office, the Supreme Court has repeatedly made decisions with far-reaching political consequences.

It is unlikely that Biden’s reform plans will be implemented for the time being. The required majority in the US Congress is currently not in sight.
