Xinhua News Agency, Washington, April 21 (Reporter Deng Xianlai) US President Biden said on the 21st that the United States will provide Ukraine with additional security assistance worth $800 million and direct economic assistance of $500 million.

Biden said at the White House that day that the United States will provide Ukraine with additional security assistance worth $800 million to help it enhance its combat capabilities in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. In addition, the United States will provide the Ukrainian government with $500 million in direct economic assistance to help stabilize its economy. Biden said he will apply to Congress next week for an additional budget to ensure the United States can continue to provide Ukraine with weapons, ammunition and economic aid.

Biden also announced that the United States would ban Russian-flagged, Russian-owned or Russian-operated ships from calling U.S. ports or entering U.S. shores. He called the move a joint U.S. effort with its EU partners, the U.K. and Canada, to prevent Russia from benefiting from the international economic system.

According to the statement issued by the US Department of Defense on the same day, the additional security assistance provided by the United States to Ukraine this time includes 72 155mm caliber howitzers, 72 howitzer tractors, 144,000 rounds of artillery shells and more than 121 tactical drones.
