US President Joe Biden, in an interview with CNN, promised Saudi Arabia “consequences for what they did with Russia,” referring to the OPEC Plus group’s decision last week to reduce oil production by two million barrels per day.
The Saudi Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, denied the authenticity of reports regarding coordination between Saudi Arabia and Russia, which lead the OPEC Plus group, to raise oil prices. At a time, there were reports of American pressure to discourage the Kingdom from taking a decision to reduce oil production.
Biden said in the interview that his visit to Saudi Arabia was not because of oil, adding, “We must, and I’m in the midst of a process – when the Senate and House of Representatives come back – there will be some consequences for what they did with Russia.”
When asked regarding the kind of consequences that the kingdom will face, Biden replied by saying: “I will not go into what I will consider and what I think. But there will be consequences.”
