The president of the United States, Joe Biden, considered that the attack on a children’s hospital in the Ukrainian capital, which left 32 dead and dozens injured, is “a horrible reminder of Russia’s brutality.”

“The missile attacks by Russia today killed dozens of Ukrainian civilians and caused damage and casualties in the largest children’s hospital in Kyiv. They are a horrible reminder of Russia’s brutality,” he said in a statement released by the White House.

In the document, released prior to the summit of the NATO in Washington, the president also stressed the importance of international support for the defense of Ukraine.

The United States considers that the attack on a children’s hospital in Kyiv is “savage” and deliberate, said the Department of State on Monday.

“Russia carried out another savage missile attack once morest civilians,” a State Department spokesman, Matthew Miller, told reporters.

According to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, a children’s hospital in Kyiv was targeted by Russian bombing.

Russia, on the other hand, maintains that the damage to this establishment was caused by a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile.

Asked regarding this statement, Miller replied: “There is no one else firing missiles at Ukraine at the moment.

“These are places that have no military purpose. They do not host Ukrainian military assets. They do not host members of the Ukrainian army. They are civil infrastructures, pure and simple,” he said.

“Once once more, we have seen Putin deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure as part of its bloody war once morest Ukraine,” he added.

This offensive takes place on the eve of the start of the annual summit of the NATO in Washington, in which allied countries will focus on approving measures that guarantee long-term support for Ukraine once morest the Russian invasion.

“Unfortunately, it is normal for Mr. Putin to attack civilian infrastructure, and he does not care whether it is a hospital or a residential building,” said the spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, John Kirby.

Kirby said the meeting in the US capital would send Putin “a strong signal that if he thinks he can outmaneuver a coalition of countries supporting Ukraine, he is wrong once more.”

“As President (Joe) Biden himself has said, Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia, because free people refuse to live in a world of despair and darkness,” the National Security Council spokesman said.

At the summit, according to Kirby, the United States and several allies will make “several major announcements” aimed at strengthening the military and political partnership with Ukraine to help the country continue to defend itself and deter future Russian aggression.

Meanwhile, NATO is finalizing preparations for the summit that will begin on Tuesday in Washington with a commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Alliance, in which it will reaffirm its long-term support for Ukraine at a time when Russia has stepped up its attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets.

In Ukraine, Russia continues its brutal war. Just today we have seen horrendous missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, killing innocent civilians, including children. I condemn these heinous attacks,” said Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in a statement alongside US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin.

He made it clear that Russia cannot expect NATO to abandon Ukraine, but “will have to sit down and accept a solution in which Ukraine prevails as a sovereign and independent nation.”

In that line, the Heads of State and of Government of the 32 allies will support a new comprehensive package of support for Ukraine that, in the words of the US ambassador to NATO, Julianne Smith, “will help Ukraine modernize its forces, create a force for the future, work on aspects such as interoperability with the Alliance and continue to transform its Army.”

“We are building a bridge to bring Ukraine closer to NATO membership,” Smith said on American public radio NPR.
