US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin “clearly” misjudged the situation in Ukraine and “made a complete miscalculation” regarding the resistance he would encounter. “I think he was a rational person who clearly misjudged” the situation, said Joe Biden in an interview with CNN, which published some quotes ahead of the broadcast scheduled for Tuesday evening. “He thought he was going to be welcomed with open arms (…) and I think he made a complete miscalculation,” said the American president once more regarding his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Russia claimed responsibility for new “massive” strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure on Tuesday, for which the G7, meeting urgently, promised to “hold to account” the Russian president.
The Russian military has recently suffered a series of setbacks in northeastern, eastern and southern Ukraine.
