Joe Biden launched an official account on Monday on the social network Threads, a direct competitor to Elon Musk’s X platform (formerly Twitter), with which the White House has stormy relations.

The American president, his wife Jill Biden, Vice-President Kamala Harris, her husband Doug Emhoff, as well as the White House are now present on Mark Zuckerberg’s social network (Meta/Facebook).

“You find me today on a new platform, but my message has not changed,” wrote the American president in his first publication.

“I don’t see a dark, dismal, divided future for America. I see an America on the verge of taking off,” continues the Democrat, who celebrates his 81st birthday on Monday.

The American president, candidate for a second term, advocates optimism in the face of the speeches of his great Republican rival Donald Trump on the “decline” of the United States.

He also campaigns on the latter’s network, Truth Social.

“Threads is one more way to communicate with Americans,” commented a White House official, assuring that this launch was “in preparation for several weeks.”

The White House had, in a particularly virulent outing, accused Elon Musk on Friday of having made a “abject promotion of anti-Semitic and racist hatred” in one of his publications on his social network X.

Joe Biden himself estimated, a little over a year ago, that it would be “worth it” to examine the billionaire’s relationships with foreign governments.

The American president, who pursues an aggressive policy of support for electric vehicles, readily praises the efforts of large historical manufacturers, but most often avoids mentioning Tesla, another of Elon Musk’s companies, to the great dismay of the latter.

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are accustomed to fighting via social networks, and the former even offered to confront the latter in a public bare-knuckle fight.

This project, mentioned several months ago, did not materialize.

Their animosity seems to have increased at the beginning of July with the launch of Threads, X’s direct competitor.
