Biden is “furious”; Nancy Pelosi denies leading a plot against him

WASHINGTON (EFE).— Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and influential Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi denied having led the operation within the Democratic Party that forced the country’s president, Joe Biden, to abandon his re-election campaign two weeks ago.

“No, I did not lead any pressure campaign. I did not call anybody. I can always tell him (Biden) that I did not call anybody,” Nancy Pelosi said in an interview with a CBS Sunday show, which yesterday aired an excerpt of the conversation.

Asked about reports that Biden is “furious” with her, Nancy Pelosi replied: “Well, he knows I love him very much.”

The congresswoman declined to detail the conversations she has had with Biden on the matter because, she said, she has never publicly revealed what she discusses with the president in private.

Biden dropped out of his re-election bid on July 21 and passed the baton to Vice President Kamala Harris, bowing to pressure from several members of his party and donors who called on him to withdraw after his disastrous performance in the electoral debate with former Republican President Donald Trump on June 27.

According to several leaks in the US media, Mrs Pelosi and former President Barack Obama played a crucial role in forcing Biden to throw in the towel, as they believed the president had no chance of beating Trump in November.

Interviewed by MSNBC on July 10, Nancy Pelosi avoided giving her explicit support to Biden and said that the president had to make a decision on the future of her candidacy, even though he had made it clear that his objective at that time was to continue with the campaign.
