Biden continues the election campaign while the pressure increases

– If the Lord Almighty comes down and asks me to do it, maybe I will do it, answered US President Joe Biden when he was asked if it was time to give up in an interview on Friday.

In the last week, Biden has been asked from several quarters to withdraw from the American election campaign. His cognitive abilities have also been questioned. But the 81-year-old has no plans to give up and is adamant that he is fit to continue as president.

– I beat Trump in 2020. I will beat him once more in 2024, he wrote on social media on Saturday.

The first lady asked to run an election campaign

The Biden campaign has unveiled an intense campaign plan for July, including a flurry of trips to all the key states.

On Sunday, Biden will go to both Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the state of Pennsylvania.

Biden’s wife, first lady Jill Biden, is expected to campaign for her husband in Georgia, Florida and North Carolina on Monday. Then he takes a break in the election campaign to prepare for the NATO summit in Washington DC. At the same time, his wife encourages Biden to continue in the election campaign.

The NATO summit already starts on Tuesday, and Biden will have to reassure allied European countries at a time when many of them fear that Donald Trump will win the presidential election in November. For the other countries, there may be significant consequences.

Trump has long been a critic of the defense alliance and believes that the US is carrying too much of the burden.

– Best for the country

But there is also disagreement within the Democratic Party regarding Biden’s ability to serve as president. So far, five Democratic lawmakers have asked him to step down.

– I think this week is going to be absolutely critical, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy told CNN on Sunday. Murphy is an ally of Biden and still has faith that he can win the election.

But Murphy believes the president must do more to reassure voters.

– If he cannot do that, then of course he has to make a decision regarding what is best for the country.

Schiff believes in Harris

Democrat Adam Schiff says he believes fellow party member and vice president Kamala Harris might have won overwhelmingly over Trump, if she had run for office.

– I think Kamala Harris might very well win overwhelmingly, but before we make a decision regarding who else it will be, the president has to make a decision if it is him, says Democratic representative Adam Schiff to NBC News on Sunday.

Furthermore, he says that incumbent President Joe Biden must either win, or pass the baton on to someone who can win.

Recently, there has been a lot of talk regarding whether Biden is able to hold the role of president any longer, and he has been asked whether it is time to give up.

– If the Lord Almighty comes down and asks me to do it, maybe I will do it, Biden answered when he was asked the question in an interview on Friday.

Schiff has been in the House of Representatives from California since 2001 and has, among other things, chaired the chamber’s intelligence committee.

Governor believes in quick decision

Hawaii Governor Josh Green is still standing by Biden’s side, but he says a decision on whether the president will stay in the election campaign might come within days.

He believes Biden – if he decides not to run for re-election – will point to Vice President Harris as his replacement.

– I think that the president will remain in the election campaign unless he feels that it is not possible to win, or that he feels that he has to listen to other voices in his inner circle who say that he should not run. If the president had felt he wasn’t ready for it, he will step down, says the Hawaii governor, who has known the Biden family for years since his wife’s uncle shared a room with Biden in college.

– We will probably find out in the next few days what the president thinks regarding this, Green continues.
