Biden announces $450 million in new military aid to Ukraine

The United States announced on Monday a new military aid of 450 million dollars to Ukraine, the scene of an armed conflict with Russia.

This aid includes ammunition for HIMARS rocket launchers, anti-tank missile launchers and air surveillance radars, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

The US official also announced emergency aid of $10 million. “in order to keep Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in good working order (…)”.

US President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to kyiv on Monday, where he held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

On this occasion, the American head of state stressed the importance of his presence in kyiv, which demonstrates the support of the United States for Ukraine, according to a press release from the Ukrainian presidency.

“I think it would be extremely important to leave no doubt that the United States supports Ukraine”Biden claimed during his interview with Zelensky.

For his part, the Ukrainian president called Biden’s visit a “extremely important signal of support for Ukraine and Ukrainians”.
