The current United States administration, led by Joe Biden, stated that it will do everything possible to keep the Humanitarian Parole active. This is a legal migration route for residents of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
With this policy, thousands have already benefited since its implementation in January 2023. Blas Núñez Neto, Undersecretary of Homeland Security of the United States, recently referred to the issue.
The executive emphasized his government’s commitment to defending the program. His statements came to light during a press conference regarding collaboration between the United States, Guatemala and Mexico to mitigate irregular migration.
“We are very committed to continuing to implement this program,” highlighted the senior official. Núñez Neto clarified that the administration will act vigorously once morest possible adverse decisions in the courts.
He also warned that “we are going to discuss with our Department of Justice what the next steps will be, but we are very committed to continuing to implement this program.”
words of relief
The words of this senior United States official regarding the Humanitarian Parole are a “balm” for thousands of migrants who are still waiting for the answer to their case.
All this comes amid several rumors linked to the impossibility of appealing an unfavorable ruling by Judge Drew Tipton.
Since its implementation to date, the aforementioned immigration program has allowed more than 357 thousand people to immigrate legally to the United States. The entire process happens under the sponsorship of US residents.
Cubans, for example, represent a high number of beneficiaries, with more than 75 thousand applications for form I-134A approved by the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
According to official data from the Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in 2023 more than 67 thousand Cubans arrived in the United States thanks to Humanitarian Parole.
