Biathlon Pokljuka – fuss about Thierry Langer at the shooting range: Sven Fischer demands disqualification

“There were a few holes on the track. I lost my balance and then one of those holes hit me, so I fell flat on my gun,” Langer said “ZDF”. The 31-year-old lost his magazine.

A supervisor at the shooting range finally handed Langer a spare magazine.

But that wasn’t the only problem.

“After inserting the magazine I found that I can’t see anything.” He then took it out once more and tried to fix the problem.

Rösch: “Respect, he reacted well”

Eurosport expert Michael Rösch, who recognized that the Belgian had unloaded the gun before trying to free the barrel from the ice, praised: “Respect, he reacted well,” said the 39-year-old.

Nevertheless, he rated the incident at the shooting range as a “hot moment” and a “very delicate situation”.

Fischer calls for disqualification

The scene was reminiscent of DSV athlete Florian Graf, who also looked into his gun ten years ago in Oberhof – but without unloading it first.

Rösch’s former teammate Sven Fischer found clear words for Langer on “ZDF”. “You always have to expect something to happen. You should never put a head or part of your body in front of the barrel muzzle. Never. Never,” the 51-year-old clarified.

Especially with regard to the role model function, the two-time overall World Cup winner demanded severe consequences: “That’s not possible. You would have to disqualify this season.”

Rösch surprised: “I’ve never seen it before”

Despite all efforts, Langer was not able to free the barrel from the ice. The attempt to free the rifle with his own stick also failed followingwards.

“He just had so much snow in his diopter,” analyzed Olympic champion Rösch live on Eurosport: “I’ve never seen a scene like that.”

Langer received a reserve gun shortly following and then shot clean. When the French relay team was victorious, Langer and Co. finally finished tenth. The German squadron took fifth place.
