The German Benedikt Doll won the Lenzerheide sprint, ahead of Johannes Boe and Philipp Nawrath. First Frenchman, Quentin Fillon Maillet finished eighth, despite two shooting errors.

There was Justine Braisaz-Bouchet on Thursday among the women. There is Benedikt Doll among the men this Friday. The German left the same impression of ease as the Frenchwoman during the sprint in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), where he dominated Johannes Boe. Starting with bib 28, the 33-year-old biathlete delivered a perfect race, showing himself to be just as skillful behind the rifle as he was fast on the skis. Doll took the lead in the standings following the second shot and didn’t let go of the controls until the finish. He thus signs the fifth victory of his career in the World Cup in an individual race, his third in a sprint. Behind him, we find Johannes Boe, who made him tremble until the end, but who finally failed at five seconds. The Norwegian, who made a mistake on his first shot, came back four and a half seconds behind Doll at the end of the second shooting range, where he signed a flawless shot, but he did not manage to beat him on the last three kilometers. The podium is completed by another German, Philipp Nawrath who, despite his mistake on the first shot, finished very strong, overtaking Sturla Laegreid and Johannes Kuehn in the last kilometers.

The clumsy Blues

And the French in all this? They are further away. Weighed down by their shooting errors, the Blues did not manage to do well in this sprint, a discipline where victory is almost always played out with 9 or 10 behind the rifle. But on this Swiss track (which will host the 2025 Worlds) where speed on skis seems to take precedence over marksmanship (like Martin Ponsiluoma, 7th despite three faults), Quentin Fillon Maillet and Eric Perrot managed to limit breakage. Both authors of two faults, they managed to finish 8th and 10th respectively, 59 seconds and 1’08 behind the winner. Nawrath having finished 37 seconds behind Doll, they can even dream of a podium in the pursuit on Saturday, but they will have to achieve a flawless performance. For Emilien Jacquelin, this sprint looked like a little nightmare, with five shooting errors and a ranking beyond the Top 30. Still no Frenchman on a podium in the individual events this season, therefore, while the French women are already mounted four times on the box.
