India has decided to further expand and accelerate the telecom technology in its country and preparations are being made to bring 6G to the country.
According to foreign media, Indian Government’s Telecom Minister Jyoti Radtia Scindia held a consultative meeting with telecom service providers in which they discussed the 6G technology in the country and expressed their positive support to the companies in the development of the technology. According to the report, on this occasion, the telecom companies reiterated their old demands for ease of license permit in any area, rationalization of electricity rates and reduction in rates.
The meeting did not discuss issues related to over-the-top (OTT) businesses, including bringing them under the licensing regime, imposing reasonable usage charges on large mobile applications, sources said.
The meeting discussed India’s share in International Standards and Intellectual Property and Standard Essential Patents and connectivity gaps in telecom and telecom service standards.
The government officials urged the telecom service members to take necessary steps to provide better and quality telecom services to the citizens of India and explained the role of various stakeholders including the government to achieve this.
Minister of State for Communications Pemsani Chandrasekhar, Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal, Member (Finance) Digital Communication Commission Manish Sinha and other senior officials of the Department of Telecommunications were also present in the meeting.
