Game News Beyond Good and Evil 2: Unreassuring news?

An exceptional game with mixed sales, Beyond Good and Evil remains one of the major pieces of the console generation of the early 2000s. For years, players hoped for a sequel which was finally confirmed in 2016. Since then, multiple events have impacted the development and the wait is obviously (very far) from being over.
A creation enamelled with obstacles
Since the departure of Michel Ancel in 2020, information regarding Beyond Good & Evil 2 are becoming rare. To tell the truth, for the past two years, apart from a few rumors in the hallway, the project has remained very secret and that is not intended to reassure the fans who are waiting for this sequel. Just before his departure, the interested party had underlined the good performance of the development and a few weeks ago, the video game industry had echoed the first internal tests and some photos had circulated, suggesting a title – for the moment – less detailed than the gameplay phases revealed by Ubisoft in 2018. Which suggests that the development is far, very far from being finished…
Several additional years of development?
If the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 continues and is visibly moving in the right direction, some rumors point to a work that is still far from complete. At one time, sources who spoke anonymously pointed out that the project lacked a clear direction and that the tests were inconclusive. A few months ago, Tom Henderson, a generally well-informed insider and source of recent information, reported that the game was sometimes mocked internally, to the point of taking the nickname of Skull & Bones 2.0, another production from the French studio. , long considered an Arlesian.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 – The game is suffering a development crisis from a lack of creative direction since the title went into development, which was worsened by Michael Ancel’s departure from the studio in September 2020.

All these sounds coming from the industry suggest a development time of at least two years, if not more. Especially when you know that screenwriter Sarah Arellano, already at work on World of Warcraft, has just joined the team. We can thus imagine that several aspects of the software are moving in the right direction, but that it will still take a long time for it to become a marketable video game. And finally, between the gray areas, the positive thing to take away from it is that the development of the game is continuing and that it seems to be on the right track.
Video games have learned to make us patient, but there are certain licenses that have become champions in the discipline. After Duke Nukem Forever, Shen Mue and now Beyond Good & Evil 2, Who’s next ? Yes, good, Half-Life 3but unfortunately nothing concrete for too long…
