Beyoncé tops Grammy nominations

Singer Beyoncé collected the most nominations for the next Grammy Awards ceremony in 2023 on Tuesday, with nine categories. She is ahead of rapper Kendrick Lamar, British pop diva Adele and Brandi Carlile.

The list of nominations paves the way for a rematch between Beyoncé and Adele at this 65th Grammys ceremony, the equivalent of the Oscars for music in the United States, which will take place in Los Angeles on February 5, 2023 and will be broadcast on the CBS channel.

In 2017, the British artist crushed the competition in the main categories, winning five awards with her album ’25’, at the expense of the American, whose album ‘Lemonade’, much appreciated by fans and critics, is now a classic.

Five years later, Beyoncé took pole position with her album ‘Renaissance’, released in July, an opus with dance, house and disco accents, a sort of urgent call to wiggle on the tracks following the pandemic.

Her nine nominations, notably in the flagship categories of best album, song and recording of the year, place her ahead of Californian rapper Kendrick Lamar, who gets eight, then Adele and pop, rock and country singer Brandi Carlile, who get eight. collect seven.

‘Queen’ Beyoncé, 41, also joins her husband, rapper Jay-Z, as the most nominated artist of all time, with 88 nominations.

ABBA still there

Beyond the announced duel between Beyoncé and Adele, the list of contenders for this next ceremony honors big names like Kendrick Lamar and his latest album ‘Mr Morale & the big steppers’, released in May, or R&B legend Mary J Blige, nominated in six categories, including Best Album with ‘Good Morning Gorgeous’.

Also prominent are rappers Future and DJ Khaled, as is pop star Harry Styles, with six nominations each.

In the most prestigious categories also appear Lizzo (album of the year for ‘Special’, recording and song of the year for ‘About Damn Time’), or Doja Cat (best recording with ‘Woman’).

Taylor Swift, who has embarked on the process of re-recording her first six albums so she can control the rights, will be able to compete for song of the year with her 10-minute version of ‘All Too Well’, but also for Country Song of the Year and Best Music Video.

Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, arguably the biggest streaming and touring artist in the world, will be featured in three categories, including Best Album for ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’.

Also note, the world stars of ABBA, who have been making disco fans dance so much since the 70s, are making a winning comeback with ‘Voyage’, in the running for best album, and ‘Don’t shut me down’ for the best recording.

Among the new categories, the Recording Academy, which brings together music industry professionals, has added an award for the best video game music for the first time. And the candidates are the soundtracks of ‘Aliens: Fireteam Elite’, ‘Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarök’, ‘Call Of Duty: Vanguard’, ‘Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy’, and ‘Old World’.
