Beyoncé and Taylor Swift songs could save your life, say heart experts

If you like the songs “Virgo’s Groove”, by Beyoncé, and “You’re Losing Me”, by Taylor Swift, know that they might literally save your life. At least, that’s what experts from the American Heart Association (AHA) say.

According to the researchers, the two songs have between 100 and 120 beats per minute (bpm), corresponding to the speed at which chest compressions need to be performed if cardiopulmonary resuscitation is needed during a collapse. Specifically, Swift’s track has 103 bpm, considered the “right rhythm”.

And how can they help? If someone needs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), you should call emergency services and, until they arrive, simply “push hard and quickly in the center of the chest”, in the rhythm of these songs, as recommended by the AHA.

To perform CPR with your hands, you must place the lower part of one of them on the sternum bone – the one in the center of the chest – of the collapsed person, while the other is on top of the first. Next, it is necessary to press hard and quickly, at a rate of between 100 and 120 beats per minute.

The AHA recommends a list of other ideal songs for performing the procedure. In addition to those already mentioned, there are other singers, such as “Break My Soul”, by Beyoncé, and “Welcome to New York” and “Sparks Fly”, by Taylor Swift.

The list also includes “Poker Face” and “Just Dance”, by Lady Gaga; “Uptown Funk”, by Bruno Mars; “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson; “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston; and one of the most popular for revival, “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
