Did you know that a certain feature of WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging application, can cause your photos to leak?
Yes, as some researchers have claimed in a recent report, cyber security experts at ZengoX Research say hackers can gain access to users’ private photos and chats under the application’s ‘View Once’ feature.
Experts have claimed that Metta’s company is misunderstanding WhatsApp’s feature View Once, as hackers can save and share View Once messages in hacked WhatsApp accounts.
According to the International News Agency, a report was published in Bleeping Computer in which a Zengo official said that his team had disclosed the revelations to Meta, but when the team realized that the flaw had first been brutally exploited. If it has been raised, this information should be made public in order to protect the privacy of WhatsApp users.
Zengo reports that if the URL address is known, any client can download encrypted media stored on WhatsApp’s servers without authentication, some messages contain a low-quality preview of the image without downloading. Can also be used for viewing.
Messages are stored on WhatsApp servers for two weeks after being downloaded.
What is View Once feature of WhatsApp?
This feature was introduced by the app in 2022 as WhatsApp wanted to improve user privacy.
Under this feature, no media and messages can be reopened or screenshotted, not even screen recording.
