The pancreas is an organ in your abdomen that releases enzymes to aid digestion and produces hormones that help manage blood sugar.
Pancreatic cancer is relatively rare but one of the deadliest, in part because it is often discovered later at a more serious stage. Without timely diagnosis and treatment, cancer can quickly spread to nearby tissues, according to timesofindia.com.
The American Cancer Society says pancreatic cancer can spread to the abdomen and liver, as well as to the lungs, bones, brain and other organs.
Symptoms that reveal the spread of the disease
According to the American Cancer Society, most people with pancreatic cancer will develop jaundice as one of the first symptoms.
Jaundice is a condition in which the skin, whites of the eyes and mucous membranes turn yellow, caused by a high level of bilirubin in the blood. With increased levels of bilirubin, urine can also become brown.
Bilirubin is a dark brown substance made in the liver. It plays an important role in removing waste products that result from the destruction of old or abnormal red blood cells. However, it can build up in the blood when the bile duct is blocked, such as by a tumor. In this way, it is advised to consult a doctor for further examination.
Other signs of pancreatic cancer
Aside from the above signs, pancreatic cancer can also lead to:
Abdominal pain spreading to your back
Loss of appetite or unintended weight loss
There may also be a new diagnosis of diabetes or existing diabetes will become difficult to control.
Blood clots and fatigue can also occur in people with pancreatic cancer.

Can pancreatic cancer be prevented?
There’s no definitive way to avoid pancreatic cancer, but preventive measures may help reduce your risk of developing any type of cancer.
Studies have shown that people at high risk of developing pancreatic cancer have been affected by a combination of factors such as smoking, long-term diabetes and poor diet.
Quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and eating a healthy diet are some of the steps that can positively affect your overall health.
