With the price of gasoline and diesel soaring, scammers are now focusing on fuel. You must therefore be careful when refueling.
With the price per liter of gasoline and diesel increasing day following day, the crooks, who are always increasing their efficiency, have found a new scam.
Several complaints report a new scam targeting motorists at gas stations. There method is simple and effective and the crooks leave with fuel at their victim’s expense. Explanations.
When refueling
The victim is approached when he is filling up with gas. Usually a couple approaches the motorist and asks him for a small service claiming a lack of fuel.
The scammers then show their vehicle, apparently a large and beautiful displacement, parked a little further away and supposed to be broken down. Which can give confidence to the future victim.
They then ask him if they can take some fuel by putting it in a container to restart the vehicle. If themotorist agrees to help them outthe situation will escape him.
Several liters taken insistently
The victim will then give the gasoline gun he was using so that the so-called broken down couple can take the little gasoline or diesel they need to remedy the breakdown.
The person who takes the gun will then take much more than the liter or two announced, arriving with a huge can and keeps pouring out liquidby forcing and intimidating the cheated person.
During this time, the driver can’t do anything and is debited for the fuel taken. Once they have gotten what they wanted, the thieves drive off in their fancy car, leaving their victim to pay for the gas.
A complainant explains that he was ashamed
A man who explained that he had been a victim and who subsequently filed a complaint confided that he had mainly had shameas reported Car-Motorcycle. He did not notify the police immediately, because he thought he should have understood that we don’t not break down at a gas station….
So as they say, forewarned is forearmed, and so is a motorist…
