A leading decentralized blockchain security network, Forte, drew the community’s attention to another scam project a few days ago. In their post shared on Twitter, they criticized the “Sleepdrop” crypto project, of which thousands fell victim.

to forta according to the essence of the scam is that tokens from an apparently legitimate contract appear in users’ wallets. Users who do not avoid such thin air tokens are at serious risk. When connecting their wallet to the Internet, users unknowingly sign a transaction which apparently it binds them to a decentralized application (dApp). However, this transaction actually calls the contract’s connect function, which is the transfer of a small amount of ETH results in

Forta, which first noticed the scam, is a Web3 security solution and real-time detection network that monitors activity on the blockchain. The network consists of a decentralized network of independent node operators who examine transactions and block changes for potential threats.

Ivan Spanier, member of the Forta Foundation and the discoverer of the Sleepdrop scam, spoke to BeInCrypto about the risks of this new type of fraud. According to Spanier, this is a “uniquely insidious” scam.

“Interaction with the Sleepdrop contract almost always ends with draining the native tokens. It is important that it is airdrops from verified contracts only and we request it from official sites” – Spanier said. As a warning, he added: “under no circumstances should users interact with such airdropped tokens, even if it appears to be sent by the official team”.

Illegal activity in the crypto space accounts for less than 1% of the total transaction volume

This new type of attack is just one of many tricks scammers use to steal cryptocurrency. However, it is important to note that illegal activity in cryptocurrency accounts for less than 1% of the total transaction volume.

So, despite the constantly appearing threats, if we do everything we can to avoid fraud – we don’t look at new projects through rose-colored glasses, but within the limits of reality, we keep our private keys safe and we don’t fall for (too) promising texts – our wealth, our devices and, last but not least, ourselves can be safe.
