Beware of Fake Comic Book Figurine Scammer Selling on eBay: The Christophe Scam Revealed

2023-10-30 10:16:05

If he was the subject of a trial, this crook would continue to operate throughout Belgium and as far as Paris, selling fake comic book figurines.

If you are a Tintin fan, or more generally a comic book collector, then beware. In fact, the local online newspaper Sudinfo has sounded the alarm about a man named Christophe who is allegedly selling fake comic book figurines on sites such as eBay or on social networks. And this is not his only scam, since he would also specialize in the “sale” of iPhones, among other things…

What’s wrong is that Christophe has already been found guilty in a trial by the Mons court. While on parole, he would nevertheless continue his illegal practices and would be untraceable with at least 35 victims to his credit.

The man uses several pseudonyms, which makes his identification impossible. What’s more, sales sites like eBay deny being able to act against Christophe under these conditions, since it is not reasonable to verify the identity of each seller.

The scammer’s modus operandi is always the same: he is a collector who buys the products, then resells them when stocks are exhausted. But if he happens to be honest to gain confidence in the client, the goal remains to defraud the client by not delivering the sculptures to the buyer. Ultimately, this represents thousands of euros in losses for the victims…

If Christophe is representative of these dishonest practices, we must also remember that he is far from being the only scammer of his kind. Sales sites remain a prime target for scammers due to the lack of control…
