Beware of Counterfeit iPhones: A Shocking Scam Story from Belgium-iphone

2023-10-04 17:20:00

The story told by our colleagues from Belgium-iphone sounds like a bad joke, yet it is sadly true. Recently, Loïc’s dad wanted to replace his iPhone 11 Pro Max with a more recent model. When he came across an ad for an “a priori new” iPhone 14 Pro Max for 1,000 euros on Facebook Market Place, he was tempted.

Vigilant, the man took precautions before making the purchase and even during it. During their meeting to make the sale, the seller even suggested that Loïc’s dad unpack the product in front of him and check the serial number, similar to that on the invoice. In short, everything seemed perfectly normal.

However, this was not the case. “It was when my father came home and we set up the iPhone that it was a cold shower,” says Loïc. If the device looked like an iPhone, the software had nothing to do with that of the famous Apple brand. Despite a real serial number, also confirmed by Apple itselfthe “iPhone 14 Pro Max” purchased for 1,000 euros was in reality just a pale counterfeit.

Another oddity

Loïc’s dad therefore has in his possession a smartphone resembling an iPhone but with performance “similar to that of an old Nokia”. With an unpleasant surprise as a bonus: “Another strange point was that the photo library contained hundreds of photos of half-naked women…”

Obviously, following this sale, the seller deleted his Facebook account and his telephone number goes to an English voicemail. “It’s especially for my dad that I feel sorry for. He was very happy to get a new phone and, at the same time, to give me the one he no longer used. Add to this the €1,000 lost, it’s particularly hard…” regrets Loïc who today wants to be alert regarding the quality of the scams but also to find other victims to file a complaint in order to build “a bigger file. »
