Beware of B-Post Scam: Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Parcel Offers

2023-10-06 10:44:00

This might seem like a good idea. You browse your social networks, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or other, and you see an insert “Buy an undelivered B-Post parcel”, for only 2 euros. The good business. It might bring funds into the company’s coffers, it frees it up, and on the consumer side, we might come across a smartphone, a book or a cable… In any case, for two euros, we can try your luck.

How bpost justifies the salary that its new CEO Chris Peeters might receive

But the thing is that this insert pretends to be bpost, by being labeled “B-Post”. A nice scam in perspective therefore. You will lose your investment, and the public distribution company will certainly not see the color either.

“The bpost logo and name (even misspelled) have been used fraudulently. We are not involved in such an action. Our legal department has been notified,” the bpost spokesperson tells us. The company “always returns unclaimed packages to the sender,” she continues, specifying that the company reports this unfortunately quite common scam each time.

Beware of bait

So be careful when making this type of publication. Always check the alleged name of the company, the site (if the link seems reliable, with “https”, and if a small padlock is visible, a guarantee of security).

And obviously, never share your personal information, such as your social security number, banking information or passwords, unless you are absolutely sure of the legitimacy of the site you are browsing. Finally, use strong, unique passwords for each online account. So as not to give easy access to your personal accounts through an unfortunate maneuver. If the payoff is too good, be wary.
