Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer in men following skin cancer, however, not many people know its symptoms – including those in urine.

Your pee can reveal a lot of clues regarding your overall health, so if you pee a lot and wake up in the middle of the night heading to the bathroom, this might be cause for concern, according to the British Express.

Do you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night to pee?

It can be a wake-up call to check on your prostate health. Getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom might be a symptom of prostate cancer.

One difficulty in diagnosing prostate cancer is that it often does not present with many symptoms until the disease has progressed.

Getting up in the night to urinate means nocturia, and it might be a sign of a growing tumor pressing on the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder.

If you notice that you need to urinate a lot, including in the middle of the night, you should go to the doctor to have your prostate checked.

Most of the time, the cause isn’t as serious as cancer, but it’s more common as an enlarged prostate. However, the only way to rule out prostate cancer is to see your doctor and get tested.

According to Cancer Research UK, these groups are more likely to develop prostate cancer:

You are over fifty

Your father or brother has prostate cancer

Because prostate cancer tends to have no noticeable symptoms until it has progressed, you should be seen right away if you think you have symptoms.

Getting tested and getting a diagnosis as soon as possible for prostate cancer can save your life.

If you talk to your doctor and they confirm that a prostate exam is necessary, there are a variety of different tests.

Your doctor is likely to test your urine to rule out other causes, do a digital rectal exam — in which the doctor feels your prostate to check for enlargement — and possibly a blood test.

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?

In addition to urinating frequently, especially at night, these are the most common symptoms of prostate cancer.

Difficulty starting urination or emptying the bladder

A sudden need to urinate – sometimes urine leakage before going to the toilet

You may also experience other symptoms, including:
