“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm that actress Shannen Doherty has passed away,” her publicist of many years, Leslie Sloane, told People.
Shannen Doherty was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was seven years old. She made her acting debut as a ten-year-old in the television series “Father Murphy”.
She had roles in several classic teen films such as “Girls just want to have fun” (1985) and “Heathers” (1988), and did minor roles in television series such as “Little House on the Prairie” and “21 jump street”, but she got her big break in the TV series “Beverly Hills 90210”.
I ”Beverly Hills” she played one of the main roles as Brenda Walsh. The series depicted siblings Brenda and Brandon (Jason Priestley) who move from Minnesota to glamorous Los Angeles, and the group of friends they eventually meet. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Two years later, in 2017, Doherty announced that the cancer had returned.

Shannen Doherty passed away on July 13 surrounded by her family. She was 53 years old.
