‘Beverly Hills cop’ loses John Ashton (76): officer Taggart who wanted to do everything by the book

“Put the three of us together and something good comes out of it. We are friends and we trust each other,” actor Judge Reinhold (Billy Rosewood) summed up the collaboration.

Ashton did not wholeheartedly embrace the role at first. He was annoyed that he was always addressed as “Taggart” on the street. “I was upset. I had played so many other roles,” said Ashton.

But gradually Ashton came to see it as an honor. “Not many actors can put their stamp on a role that sticks forever.”

This year a sequel was released on Netflix with ‘Beverly Hills cop: Axel F’. The actors of yesteryear were present again to reprise their old roles, including the sick Ashton.
