“Beverly Hills Cop” actor John Ashton dies at age 76

The American actor, star of the saga, died Thursday September 26 in Colorado. He participated in the fourth part, released on Netflix last July.

John Ashton, American actor known for his role as Sergeant John Taggart in the Beverly Hills Cop saga and a familiar face on the small screen, died Thursday September 26 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was 76 years old.

According to CNNthe announcement of his disappearance was made in a press release from his family. The causes of his death are currently unknown.

Born in 1948 in Springfield, Massachusetts, John Ashton made several appearances in several episodes of Dallas, but also in the series Kojak, Columbo, MASH or Wonder Woman in the 1970s. Then in The A-Team and the Fifth dimension and several miniseries over the following decade.

He also played numerous roles in the cinema: Above All Suspicion in 1986, Midnight Run (with Robert De Niro) in 1988… He was also seen in Gone Baby Gone, by Ben Affleck, in 2007.

Cult role

One of his most emblematic roles remains that of John Taggart, the very procedural investigator in the Beverly Hills Cop saga. Alongside Eddie Murphy, John Ashton appeared in the first two parts (1984 and 1987) before moving on to the third, in 1994.

The actor returned to action for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F., the fourth film in the saga released on Netflix last July, thirty years after the previous one. This is the last feature film by John Ashton revealed during his lifetime. He was married to Robin Hoye, his third wife, for 24 years. He had two children.
