Between school, speech therapist and psychomotricity: this is what the daily life of Mélyna, 11 years old, suffering from dyspraxia, looks like

Mélina, 11 years old, suffers from dyspraxia. You can’t see it at first glance, but she sometimes has trouble executing certain gestures, performing certain tasks or writing. She can also be clumsy or be slower in chaining actions.

“In class, what is complicated is writing, for example. It takes time. Also, sometimes we are told dictation words, I wouldn’t be able to remember the words, since she says it, she doesn’t write. It’s a bit hard all the same”confides the little girl.

At home too, being dyspraxic can be complicated. “Take a shower, get dressed… In fact, when there is multitasking, it’s complicated. So if you have to wash or dress, there are different tasks so she has to prepare her clothes. For that, I still help her. She will soon be 11 years old, but we give her a little help because choosing an outfit to dress up is very complicated, because there are too many choice”, explains his mother.

Dyspraxia, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysphasia… Today, in the schools of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, it is estimated that approximately 9,200 children benefit from aid and arrangements. They need monitoring and supervision to learn at their own pace. Like Mélina, who goes to the speech therapist and psychomotricity every week.
